The

seasonsofdrabbles winter round has wrapped up. I may have gone a bit overboard, but I was enjoying myself too much lol. I used to love writing drabbles in my old Doctor Who fandom days, so it was great fun to get back into it. I find the form fascinating, both as a reader and a writer. I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture a moment with a limited word count. The exchange itself was a lot of fun - I loved the idea of treating, and it was a good opportunity to write for some fandoms I've never tried for before. I also received lots of wonderful gifts. Lots of fun projects/assignments/challenges going on at the moment.

ds_c6d_bigbang Primary works are in, and claiming for complimentary works will open on August 22nd. Lots of exciting new content: 6 longfics, 3 fanvids, 1 art project and one podfic. This is my first time participating in a Big Bang as a primary works creator (and it’s my first longfic as well), and I’m greatly enjoying the whole process.

At the moment, I’m working on a retrotvexchange gift fic—currently at 6k (oops). I stalled a bit at one point, but now things have started moving again, so fingers crossed.

I also signed up for remixrevival, which looks like tons of fun, especially since I’ve never done a remix challenge before.

The drawesome challenge for this month is “Face Your Fears”; an opportunity to practice something you are intimidated by. For me, that will surely be freehand full body poses—I’ve always struggled with those.

So lots of firsts after years of no fannish activity at all, and I’m enjoying every minute if it :)

I was making some Chasing Shadows screen caps the other day, and two shots were just asking to be made into fanart. Here’s my attempt at some Fraser/Kowalski cuddling/body-heat-sharing. I’m not 100% happy with every aspect, but mostly I’m quite pleased how it turned out (and it’s as close as I can get to what I want for now). Drawn on my iPad with Procreate.

This started out as an entry for the the

drawesome Redux challenge, for which I redid a "TARDIS in the snow" piece of fanart I made back in 2007. As I was painting, I imagined how this could be northern Canada (because due South has taken over my brain), and how young Benton Fraser might wander inside the TARDIS and end up meeting the Doctor. This is the story that grew out of these musings. I tried to write it in such a way that it also makes sense if you either don't know due Southor Doctor Who—I hope I succeeded.

I've been re-watching Slings & Arrows (I do love that show with its intriguing characters and complicated relationships), and I've read some great S&A fics as well. I'd love to try and write one myself, but I find the prospect quite daunting for some reason. In the meantime, my brain cooked up a bit of Slings & Arrows/due South crossover crack. His mother read him The Little Prince every night, one chapter at a time, first in English and then in French. Ben sat in her lap, her warm arms wrapped around him, and he tried to follow the words with his eyes. When he got confused, he looked at the pictures instead and listened to his mother’s voice.

How he would love to have a friend like the little prince did—a wild animal he could tame and who would tame him in return. He had never seen a real fox and didn’t know where to look for one, but sometimes he heard wolves howling in the night. A wolf would make a good friend, he thought. And yet, none ever came to visit. I’ve finished and posted my due South/C6D longfic to the collection - it ended up being almost 71k, which blew me away a bit. I’ve never been able to stick with a story this long, and I wouldn’t have been able to do with without the help and encouragement of

wicked3659 and the whole Big Band community. They’ve been an incredibly welcoming, helpful and fun bunch.

Looking forward to doing some complimentary fic/art this summer and to reading/watching/listening to everybody else’s work! This is the most fun I’ve had doing fannish stuff in a very long time. (And it’s probably the first time in my life that I’ve finished something way ahead of schedule, that’s very unlike me :P)

I’ve also started fiddling with a vid idea for the Big Bang as well, I’ll see how that goes.

ds_c6d_bigbang. Really excited! I've had ideas for longfics before but never took the step try and actually write one.

A question for fanfic writers - what are good recourses online for writers? I'm particularly interested in sites that give advice on structure and style in general. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I’m new to the due South fandom having gotten into the show last summer (I saw a few random episodes back in the 90s). I’m really enjoying all the great fanfic and fanart that is out there, and it’s got me motivated to try to write and do some art for the first time in years. It’s amazing that the fandom is still active after all these years.

Other stuff that I love: Tolkien, Babylon 5, Sherlock, Slibgs and Arrows, Merlin, Doctor Who, Life on Mars, music, art, reading, photography, nature and going for walks.
