I wrote and received several Star Trek gifts this holiday season, which is fun since that’s probably my oldest fandom (which was basically my brother and I at the time).
Exchanges: [community profile] startrekholidays, [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles and my very first Yuletide Exchange (Strange New Wolrds just snuck in under the wire)

I’m trying to catch up on my round-ups and have decided to sort them by fandom this time around. First up – due South (from [community profile] multifandomdoodle, [community profile] ds_ssdiscussion and [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles):

I've not been good at keeping up to date here! Figured I should post at least one more time before the year is out.

First of all: thank you [personal profile] mific for the gorgeous Christmas card! I love it!

I did a whole bunch of exchanges this holiday season which were all tons of fun - I'll be posting round-ups after creator reveals. [community profile] multifandomdoodle in particular was so much fun – I can't recommend that exchange highly enough. It's a wonderful entry-level art exchange with a wide variety of works and styles and lots of great Original Work art in addition to various fandoms. A great place to experiment and try new things. Due South Seekrit Santa ran again this year, and I really enjoyed the collection. There's something for everybody: fic, art, vid and podfic. I also did Yuletide for the first time this year, and I really enjoyed it! Thank to all of you who encouraged me to give it a go!

There are still some needy trees with 0 or 1 gift over at: [community profile] fandomtrees: Here's the Google Spreadsheet for anybody interested in creating some low-minimum gifts. All the different requested fandoms are tagged in the com.

I also finally watched The Professionals - only a few decades late LOL. Loved it! Now I have to go hunting for fic - it's hard to know where to begin, so I'm open to suggestions if anybody has any recs (I have the Proslib DVD). I then proceeded to watch Inspector George Gently, and I absolutely adore that show. I'm not sure how that could have passed me by.

I didn't sign up for [community profile] auexchange this year (because I couldn't get myself organized), but I'll definitely try to next year. It's such a great exchange, right down my alley. Since I had some time off this summer, I could do some treating and pinch hitting, which was fun! The Bletchley Park/due South F/K idea has been kicking around my head for a while now, so I was pleased to get that one written (even if I did go full on nerd a bit...I couldn't help myself).

There were a total of THREE due South works in the collection \o/:
Both Going for Gold by feroxargentea (due South Sports AU) and Ersatz by wicked3659 (due South/Slings & Arrows body swap story) are absolutely delightful!

I’ve decided against [community profile] ficinabox for now - it does look like a fascinating exchange, but it could end up being too much for me (considering work is going to get a lot more intense form next week onward). I’d rather give a few other exchanges a go (that require lower minimum word counts, art or vids) that I’ve either done before or want to try out.

[community profile] trickortreatex: I enjoyed writing a few treats last year, so I want to nominate and sign up this year. 300 word minimum is very manageable. Nominations are open now.

[community profile] seasonsofdrabbles: I love reading and writing drabbles. I missed signups last time, so I’m looking forward to participating in the fall round. Nominations open October 9.

[community profile] multifandomdoodle: This low pressure, entry level art exchange is SO MUCH FUN. Seriously. I loved last round and will definitely do this one as well. I might even nominate some Original Work tags - there were l some great ones in Round 1. Nominations open on or before October 22.

[community profile] mistletoe_exchange: Not sure yet if I’ll do this one if it runs this year. Looks like fun, and I probably have enough romantic ships to sign up with. I’ll see how work and other stuff pans out.

[community profile] festivids: I really hope this fanvid exchange runs again. I participated last year and had a ball. It’s also got a nice long creation period. Still have to decide what rare fandoms to nominate (fandoms with under 200 vids in the last 10 years).

Yuletide ([community profile] yuletide_admin): I‘d have enough rare fandoms this time. The size of the exchange is a bit daunting, but I should just give myself a nudge and try it.

Due South Seekrit Santa [community profile] ds_ssdiscussion is a must. Hurrah for the two new mods willing to take over, and a big cheer to the previous mods for keeping it going all these years! I idly started thinking about prompts, and my brain went to full plotbunny- multiplication-mode. Oops.

I didn’t sign up for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles this time around because the sign-up period coincided with my craziest week at work. Now that I’m on my summer break though, I could write a few treats:

Doctor Who (Big Finish Audio)
Just Friends (400 words), G, Eighth Doctor & Lucie Miller, implied Eighth Doctor/Charley Pollard

Doctor Who (Eighth Doctor Adventures)
In Time (100 words), G ratin, Anji Kapoor, Fitz Kreiner, Eighth Doctor
Lost in Translation (100 words), G rating, Eighth Doctor, Fitz Kreiner, Anji Kapoor

Doctor Who (1963)
Lost at Sea (200 words), G rating, F/M: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Tight Rope Talk (100 words), G rating, Third Doctor & Jo Grant
Options (100 words), G rating, Third Doctor & Jo Grant

Doctor Who (2005)
His Reputation Precedes Him (100 words), G rating, F/M: Jack Harkness/Donna Noble, Tenth Doctor

Star Trek (The Original Series)
The Little Things (300 words), G rating, Leonard "Bones" McCoy & Nyota Uhura
A Helping Hand (300 words), M rating, M/M: Leonard "Bones" McCoy/Spock

Star Trek (Alternate Original Series (Movies)
Birthday Treat (100 words), E rating, M/M: James T. Kirk/Leonard "Bones" McCoy

May and June were really busy work-wise, and I kind of phased out of fandom activities for a bit. Trying to get back into the swing of things now. I did manage to get my due South/C6D story done before the complimentary works deadline, which I’m really happy about. I felt blocked for so many weeks and couldn’t get back into writing mode, but then finally the floodgates opened and I was able to get it done. Excited to see everybody else’s projects!

I signed up for [community profile] multifandomdoodle at the last minute, and that was an absolute blast. I can highly recommend - it’s a low pressure art exchange with an really fun vibe. I’ll definitely participate in the next round.

I received this beautiful piece of Star Trek TOS art:
Alien Encounter by mific
Fandom: Star Trek: The Original Series
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Spock (Star Trek), James T. Kirk, Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Nyota Uhura
Additional Tags: Fanart, Digital Art, Alien Planet, Cats, Alien Biology
Summary: "My apologies, Captain, but they appear to have bonded with me."

This exchange inspired me to give traditional media a whirl again, so I made an Eight Doctor pencil drawing, a watercolor+digital Eighth Doctor/Charley Scherzo illustration and a ink/Gelatos mixed media due South painting.

Lots of fun projects/assignments/challenges going on at the moment.

[community profile] ds_c6d_bigbang Primary works are in, and claiming for complimentary works will open on August 22nd. Lots of exciting new content: 6 longfics, 3 fanvids, 1 art project and one podfic. This is my first time participating in a Big Bang as a primary works creator (and it’s my first longfic as well), and I’m greatly enjoying the whole process.

At the moment, I’m working on a [community profile] retrotvexchange gift fic—currently at 6k (oops). I stalled a bit at one point, but now things have started moving again, so fingers crossed.

I also signed up for [community profile] remixrevivalwhich looks like tons of fun, especially since I’ve never done a remix challenge before.

The [community profile] drawesome challenge for this month is “Face Your Fears”; an opportunity to practice something you are intimidated by. For me, that will surely be freehand full body poses—I’ve always struggled with those.

So lots of firsts after years of no fannish activity at all, and I’m enjoying every minute if it :)
