Yuletide 2022 Letter

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you for writing for me! I'm lomelinde on AO3—I’ve been around online fandom on and off for ages, but this is my first Yuletide Exchange and I’m really excited. I love surprises and have broad tastes, so feel free to go where your creative instincts take you. I’m fine with any tense and POV (though I prefer the POV to be consistent within a scene). I love both gen and explicit shipfic and everything in between. I especially enjoy stories that focus on the characters and/or their interactions with others, even if it’s a plotty fic. I love angst, hurt/comfort, introspection, character moments, humor, romance, action/adventure—I do like gentleness, kindness and sweet moments, though I’m not a huge fan of pure fluff. I’m up for all kinds of endings—happy, hopeful, ambiguous, melancholic, sad…whatever suits your story best.

Hell on Wheels (TV) - Cullen Bohannon

I watched this show a few weeks ago, and I got sucked in big time. Cullen Bohannon is such an intriguing, conflicted and multi-layered character with so many demons in his past (and present). I’d be up for anything focusing on him and/or his relationship with one or more characters on the show. Pre- or post-canon would be just as welcome as a story that takes place during the years working on the railway. He always keeps his feelings under such tight wraps, I love the moments when his facade cracks and the repressed emotions bubble to the surface (maybe triggered by music?). Hurt Cullen (emotional or physical) is always good (h/c or on his own). It would also be lovely to see him catch a break for once—a reunion with Mei for example, a fic focusing on friendship(s), or just one really good day.

Miami Vice - Sonny Crockett

I only discovered the show this year, and I absolutely adore it. The visual style, direction and music (both Jan Hammer’s score and the original songs used) are all fantastic and really innovative for the time. But what really grabbed me was the emotional depth, the multi-layered, richly drawn characters and the often ambiguous storylines. The show has a lot more going for it than just stylish outfits and flashy cars (though I’m a sucker for that Ferrari).

I especially love stories where Sonny is pushed to the edge (post-Burnett or Caitlin's death for example), when he begins to spiral and question himself and what he does. Do his friends see what’s going on and try to help? Are they successful? Does he engage in a self destructive behavior? Does a case hit too close to home, or does he get sucked in (like in the Shadow in the Dark episode). I’d also love a quieter, peaceful moment on his boat for example, on his own or with one or more of his friends. I'm a sucker for dreams/nightmares, and I’m also always up for some hurt/comfort (emotional of physical). Banter is always good, so I'd also enjoy a more lighthearted story focusing on friendships or maybe a cracky case.

The Streets of San Francisco - Mike Stone, Steve Keller

My dad recommended this show to me last year and I absolutely adore it. Both Karl Malden and (young!) Michael Douglas are excellent in it, and I especially love their friendship and banter. There’s an element of mentor/student dynamics, but as friends they are also equals, and I really enjoyed that.

I’d love a story that showcases this relationship. They could be trapped somewhere, possibly with little hope for survival. I’d love some hurt/comfort, especially hurt Steve. I love their banter, so I’d also really enjoy a lighter fic—maybe Steve asks Mike for advice, or vice versa. Maybe Steve is in a relationship with either a man or a women—how does that impact their friendship? Does someone from either of their pasts show up and rock the boat? Is a case a little too close to home for some reason? Does Mike get a chance to teach Steve something or the other way round? Does either of them have a secret the other one finds out about?
